"I have rented a studio space, suite 416 A, for a period of two months. I may decide to stay longer..." signed Iwona
February 1:
I deliver over a hundred fliers to the occupants of the building announcing my arrival. This becomes my introduction.
The door becomes my second site of communication with others. I post: my reflections, questions concerning possible reactions towards my initiatives, fears of rejection...repeatedly everything is taken down.
February 3:
I attach a long string of elastic bands to the outside of my door. Pulling on them reveals a series of photos found inside.
February 5:
The photos along with the elastic bands have been pushed under my door.
Attention! Free pancakes will be served at Suite 416 A. Between 11AM and 2PM
February 14:
For a full afternoon, I make pancakes inside my studio. I invite others to join me. Only a few enter my space. And reluctantly. The pancakes that remain are left in a big pile on the floor, where they slowly begin to dry out.
An invitation to sit with me in silence. Call 603 114 954 for an appointment.
March 6:
I post another invitation: for people to come and sit with me in silence. This elicits some interest and results in four meetings with strangers.
Throughout the two months, the gestures inside my studio reflect my vulnerable position and (mostly) unwelcome reception.
April 1:
I pack up my things and leave.
This separates parts.
DESCRIPTION:
For a 2-month period, I rent a studio space in a warehouse on 1001 Lenoir St. and begin to initiate contact with occupants of the building.
